Tactile whiteness_ Dune

The process of transformation_ The white camouflage.
Freedom, autonomy, the living organic matter, the individual's own search for its own way, the metamorphosis of independent formal mycelium-fractal formations.

As I have observed on several occasions, a colony of mycelia grown with the same germ, the same substrate composition, under uniform conditions, in the same time and space, will almost immediately start to grow in one isolated form, while in the other it will remain dormant or seem to deliberately omit surfaces that it will wrap around but not completely interweave. On one such occasion, a palm-sized section was left free on one, where mycelium was very difficult and slow to initiate. In this part a large nodule was free to move upwards, i.e. the fruiting body was free to flow upwards from the embrace of its own mycelium network. When this process stopped, a nice large nodular protrusion was left on the surface, followed by small outgrowths in several places. Even after the evaporation of its own moisture and complete drying out, a dormant fruiting body rests under these outgrowths, which, under UV light, shows up as purplish-blue-pinkish spots, while the mycelium surface around it remains pure white or even completely dark in the lifeless part.

For me, this failure, sometimes a breakage, is part of the unity, part of the harmony, part of the network of the growing body and the mycelium. In this closed form they form a unit, they complement each other. There is no need to replace or take out, since they belong together originally, just as Kintsugi's philosophy treats them as part of the history of the object, the object and its repair, not to disguise it, accepting the notion of change and fate as aspects of existence. The "art of scars" emphasizes the beauty and usefulness of fractures and imperfections, transforming a problem into a value that we might not even be able to achieve or understand without this experience.
